1Password is the second thing I install on any new Mac or iOS device (after Dropbox). If you’re not using it, go and check it out.

Incidentally, this is my first piece writing for AppStorm. If there are any iPad apps you’d like reviewed, drop me a tweet or leave a comment.

This is HUGE. 1% of global browser share. Think about how much traffic that really is for a second… Not bad for a product that didn’t exist until April 2010.

I was in Scotland this weekend for a flying visit but managed to grab some time on the beach at Lunderston Bay. It was quite a hazy day and the sun was beginning to set over the Clyde. I was shooting straight into the sun which wasn’t ideal but these two swans were so beautiful and calm that I couldn’t let the opportunity pass.

I thought they made for good desktops for your desktop, iPhone or (if you’ve been lucky enough to get one) iPad 2. Let me know what you think in the comments.

The iPad is a great casual computer, but the Kindle is the superior reading device. And there doesn’t need to be any “killing”. If you really like an iPad for its other uses, now that a Kindle’s entry price is $140, it’s perfectly reasonable to have both.

I have to say that the latest (black) Kindle is the first that I have considered owning. It looks very sleek and inviting and at £109 for the WiFi only version, I can see myself using it in places that I’d be reluctant to use my £700 iPad (like on the beach or by the pool). I’m going to go and check one out this weekend if I can find one.

The only thing that puts me off an e-Ink display is the flash of black as the page refreshes. I’m not sure, but I think I could live with the sacrifice though if it means a month of battery life and much better readability in direct sunlight.

The future of e-readers and tablet computers is promising. The current generation is almost as good as print in formal performance metrics — and actually scores slightly higher in user satisfaction.

Wow, I’ve been hoping for cross device position syncing for a while now.
Looks like another solid update to one of my favourite iPhone and iPad apps.
If you haven’t tried it, go and download the free version.

This guy is a genius. My desk stand looks so weak by comparison.

iPad order status

23 May 2010 | Comments |

I’m slightly concerned that my iPad won’t be delivered on the 28th after all. My order recently changed to ‘processing’ when others I know have had theirs changed to ‘shipped’ already. I’m hoping it’s not something to do with the O2 SIM card that’s holding it up.

My theory is that the 3G iPads with SIM cards need to be sent to an Apple distribution centre to be bundled together. Then they’ll be shipped from the UK rather than China. At least I hope that’s what’s going to happen!
Let me know in the comments if your iPad has or hasn’t shipped yet.

Update: Just called Apple Customer Service (who, by the way, are excellent) and it turns out that because they are dealing with such a large volume of orders at the moment (read: the iPad is very popular!), they are having to batch process them. I’m assured that my iPad will be dispatched this evening for delivery on the 28th as expected. Thanks Apple!
