GORUCK: bringing strangers together via the Internet and a common love of bags.

The GR1 (leftmost) is mine, the Radio Ruck (middle) belongs to Anil and the GR Echo (rightmost) was mine until I sold it at this meeting. Unfortunately, as the amount of gear I have to carry on a daily basis has increased, I’ve had to upscale my everyday bag to the GR1.

Stealthy but patriotic. A new patch for my GORUCK GR1.

The colours and composition of this are just perfect. It’s surprisingly difficult to take a photo of an all black bag and still get the correct exposure for the background.

Plus, it’s proof that I’m not the only one who takes pictures of my bag to share on the internet…

27 December 2011 | Comments | 5 notes |

I’ve water tested GORUCK’s bags here before but I haven’t before had the opportunity to use one in the snow. That all changed last week when I experienced Alpine snowfall at its finest while skiing in Avoriaz, France.

Read on to see how the GR1 coped.

GORUCK GR1 as a camera bag part II

14 December 2011 | Comments | 8 notes |

Having read my post on how I used my GORUCK GR1 as a hardcore camera bag, I was asked by Tumblr user Ray Park exactly how the insert from a Billingham Hadley Pro fits inside GORUCK’s GR1.

GORUCK GR1 as a (hardcore) camera bag

8 November 2011 | Comments | 13 notes |

My GORUCK GR1 saw action this weekend as a military camera bag at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.

Using the insert from my Billingham Hadley Pro camera bag (which just happens to fit perfectly), I was able to carry my 5D Mark II, 50mm f/1.4, 16-35mm f/4L, 24-105mm f/4L and 70-200mm f/2.8L along with water, and my wet weather gear.

An extremely badass camera bag!

GoRuck on a Kayak, Seattle WA

We are on a two week trip, visiting friends up and down the west coast, traveling mostly by train. She packed a REI Flash 30 (another great and light pack), and I packed my GR1.

In Seattle we rented Kayaks with friends to enjoy…

Some more real-world GORUCK water test experience. As I say, in the real world, these bags will keep your stuff dry, organised, easy to move around and look great while doing it.

Following up on Jon’s fantastic GR Echo water test, here’s my Echo after an hour in really heavy rain.

It is soaked. Completely.

The contents, however, are all dry. This includes my iPad, iPhone, and 2 wireless routers.

Positive feedback from a real-world test.

Video: How weatherproof are GORUCK bags?

4 September 2011 | Comments | 6 notes |

I’ve been asked a few times if the GORUCK bags really are weatherproof.

This is something I intend to test fully during September’s Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race, however in the meantime, there’s a short video demonstration after the break.
