GORUCK GR Echo water test part II

6 September 2011 | Comments | 8 notes |

After the last test, I wanted to see just how much of a soaking the GORUCK GR Echo could take before the inside got wet. Read on to find out how it coped.

For the test, I put tissue paper into each of the compartments so that I could check if they got damp (or not). I also wedged some around the zip on the main compartment and into each of the zipped pockets on the inside of the lid.

Unfortunately, I think my test was a little too ambitious. The front zipped section was damp and I had to empty water out of the main compartment. However, the laptop compartment and the inside lid pockets remained completely dry. I suspect the weak point in the bag is the zip, since it’s not sealed in any way apart from the storm flap. That said, I’d still rather have the traditional zip on this bag than the more waterproof, but less durable ‘sealed’ zips on some other bags.

Probably not a realistic amount of water to have thrown on the bag all at once, but at least now we know!

Any other tests you’d like to see carried out?
