I had a question this week asking if it was possible to use the Billingham Hadley Pro camera bag with Canon’s 70-200mm lens mounted on a camera body.

As you can see from the photos, the answer is yes. The image above shows my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L attached to a Canon EOS 50D (my 5D Mark II was taking the picture, however it fits equally well). The lens in the image above even has the hood attached (reversed) and also the included tripod mount. For some reason I like to keep the tripod mount attached even when I know I won’t be shooting with a tripod.

If you have the slimmer and lighter 70-200mm f/4L, you’ll find that the lens is an even better fit. The bag shuts quite happily and there’s no excessive bulging visible from the outside. You might find that you struggle to put bulky items in the exterior pockets if you have the tripod mount attached but otherwise you’ll have no problems.

There’s not a lot of room left for other gear with the 70-200mm mounted; it’s far more efficient to carry it vertically separate to the body alongside another lens with maybe a short prime mounted on the body.

I’ll be doing a more in-depth review of the Hadley Pro here soon, including another water test.
